Sebastian Wolf — machine with stick
Carte Blanche — Winter 2018
Machine with Stick is part of an ongoing series of automata exploring our relationship with machines and the absurdity of over-automation. This contraption imitates the idle actions of a young child, running along fences while creating noises with the help of a stick. It repeats a seemingly senseless process most efficiently, without pause, ad infinitum. It stands to question the meaning of such actions, especially once the human element is removed. What is the value of emotion, what does it mean to be idle, is there something more valuable beyond efficiency and maximum performance?
