Artificial Intelligence in Art and Design — Winter 2017
With the development of Artificial Intelligence, we have the potential to transcend biological life. The installation explores the transformation of life into the concept of living forever as a machine. It consists of two identical terrariums which are positioned next to each other. The left terrarium accommodates a living fly. This fly is being filmed whilst an AI on the right is being trained on the live input of the camera. The training ends with the death of the fly in the left terrarium. A Peppers Ghost illusion first shows the training of the AI algorithm and subsequently, after the flys death, the resulting “AI-fly”.
The two terrariums frame and define the setting; contrasting each other by exploring the promise and impacts of eternal life.
