How do I define myself as an artist from Istanbul who has roots in Thessallonki and Europe? What connotations should I employ to express that my creative sources are all heterogeneous? At what point do I begin to define the contents of my cultural identity? Influenced by Turkish coffee reading narratives, “Coffee Chronicles” is an artistic research project which deals with the migration by exploring a network of family stories and oral history. Turkey and Greece, roots, history, possible futures, Europe and Anatolia, invented and lost democracies, language, different and common cultures.. By taking population exchange between Turkey and Greece in 1920s as a main narrative, the project creates connection between past, present and future societies.
