Expanding Spaces — Summer 2020
A lethal virus was quickly spreading within mere months in early 2020, putting nations all over the globe in a state of emergency. With government-issued lockdowns came the question: How do we, from within the corners of our own walls, keep processes running? Most have resorted to holding video conferences – in many sectors these have proven to be most efficient.
Within our frame, that of an art school that heavily relies on in-person meetings and usage of workshops situated in university buildings, we were initially reluctant to believe it sufficient.
„Expanding Spaces“ is the result of how the New Media Class has dealt with these limitations during this tumultuous time. We have articulated, stretched, broken, reflected, extended and transgressed the boundaries of our private realms beyond the screens we have come to rely upon for living. To frame these works appropriately, the world’s largest video conference call was erected: elevated as a totem of our current times, streaming our personal spheres to the scale of the city, live for 24h.
Until the pandemic is over, we keep waiting for humans
