Das fiktive Produkt lässt sich dem Design Fiction/Critical Design zuordnen und folgt dabei ganz der zentralen Definition von Dunne & Raby: "Speculating through design by presenting abstract issues in the form of hypothetical products enables us to explore ethical and social issues within the context of everyday life."

"Hot" is a fictional, pseudo-educational children's toy. A speaking cooking spoon, which brings the established & beloved german birthday game "hit the pot" into the present time. By the iconic hot-cold calls the spoon gives hints to the correct way. However, this spoon always says "hot", no matter in which direction the child with the blindfolded eyes crawls. Because one thing is clear and unavoidable: Our future is a hot one. The cooking spoon brings the children closer to the phenomenon of rising global temperatures, which is difficult to grasp and often perceived in an abstract way, i.e. our current climate crisis. Daughter and son can playfully anticipate this hot future at the children's birthday party.
The fictitious product can be assigned to design fiction and critical design, following Dunne & Raby's central definition: "Speculating through design by presenting abstract issues in the form of hypothetical products enables us to explore ethical and social issues within the context of everyday life".
