The picture ‘pale blue dot’, which satellite Voyager 1 had taken in 1990, point the earth. Carl Sagan who named this photo said in his book, “Our posturings, our imagined self-importance, the delusion that we have some privileged position in the universe, are challenged by this point of pale light. There is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world”.
Seeing that tiny point, even though its appearance is faint and vague, it could stretch our imagination, possibilities to the universe. We still live in the blue dot, but a blue dot we face everyday is a bit different kind. It is not paling anymore, it is rather crystal clear, shining in the digital environment. When we want to go somewhere we always open Google map, orient ourselves by following a blue dot, navigate to the place by following a series of blue dot. In this process, we tend to understand our positions only by exact numbers, go to the path that only digital application serves. By doing that, we could limit our possibilities. I feel a blue dot where we stand nowadays is far different from what Carl Sagan mentioned. Therefore, the project is to distort/hack the digital blue dot, and bring our possibilities back from our digital environment.
I represent 3D environment of the space around the Medienhaus in VR. Presuming audience wants to go the Eisenacher station from there, they will walk exact same path as Google map serves to us. In the walking experience, however, the objects which are supposed to be on that path are sometimes distorted or transformed to the object which are located in other path ways.
