Over the last 100 years, the speed has immensely increased, with which we consume information. Films are shown up to four times faster today. We scroll over 94 meters of news feeds daily and "avoid [thereby] any physical, emotional, or intellectual depth." (Gregory Cumins) Our mechanized means of communication require our attention all the time. "We have allowed to monetarize our attention and now we have to pay to have them to get me back. Silence is offered as a luxury good." (Matthew B. Crawford)

The installation "Stimming" investigates this condition and does a media comparison for it: The zoetrope, as the first medium for displaying moving image is presented to the smartphone, as a contemporary mass medium. To be more precise: The smartphone is shown by the zoetrope. Because the interference of these two media makes certain properties visible.

In circular arrangement there are 16 laser engraved acrylic glass panes, which can be attached to current smartphone models remember. A motor underneath the installation rotates it at constant speed. The flashing of the LED ring is set exactly in such a way that the displays are seem to stand still and on them the permanent loop of a scroll animation through generic web- and architectures appears.
