Lu Li — The flame that waits: For the departed, I let this fire speak

Just (A Lot) Of Money — Summer 2025

The flame that waits is a kinetic installation that explores the profound intersections of life, death, time, and the preservation of self-memory. Subverting the traditional custom where "the living mourn the dead," this project constructs an intimate, preemptive ritual: a ceremony where the living present offerings to their inevitable future selves. The work poses a central question: while we are still vividly alive and striving, can we send a spiritual parcel ahead to the "nothingness" that awaits us?
