Barovič Lukas — maybe plants and machines want to be friends
Die Zeit für Nettigkeiten ist vorbei (Reloaded) — Winter 2024
Machine and nature as opposites, as enemies. Chainsaws cut down trees, while shrubs and moss reclaim decaying infrastructure. Yet, in both cases, it is the human who is both aggressor and victim—not machines or plants. If plants and machines are removed from the human actor, their relationship appears indifferent rather than hostile.
Maybe Plants and Machines Want to Be Friends deepens this approach and reverses the familiar narrative. It explores the interaction of two non- or more-than-human actors in a new and abstract context. Plant and machine, as two separate individuals, physically approach each other, yet the expected moment of destruction does not occur. Ultimately, the nature of the machine prevents further, non-destructive closeness, leaving both in a state of constant, cautious approach.
